Meet Marianne

Marianne Ames, IBCLC, RLC10-things-about-marianne

My purpose and zest for life comes from the strength of my family.  My days are spent mothering 5 active children and sharing in the parenting adventure with my husband.   My children have been my greatest teacher, always offering opportunity to learn, grow, stretch and take leaps of faith.  Each child continues to prove that just when I think I know what’s going on —- I really don’t!  There is never a “one-size-fits all” solution.

Like so many women, my life was transformed with the birth of my first child, 13 years ago, and so began my undying passion of all things birthy, baby and breastfeeding. My perspective and approach as a lactation consultant has been shaped by many years as a birth doula and childbirth educator.  My long-time volunteer work as a La Leche League Leader and Attachment Parenting Leader in my local community has greatly influenced my belief in the need of new mothers to be “mothered” by knowledgeable assistants and supported by a strong community of other nursing mothers.   To be surrounded and united, by others, sharing the same journey through parenting is powerful and reassuring. I have served as the Coordinator of Events for La Leche League of Washington since 2006 and love planning events – everyone loves a good party!  I have a passion for child development, attachment theory, neuroscience, natural wellness and I believe in the body’s ability to heal itself.  In 2010 I decide to unite my 2 loves; breastfeeding and parenting and opened Mother Nurture Breastfeeding.

My hobbies include: camping, knitting, herbs, tie-dyeing, continuing-education events, fitness, gardening, swimming, turtles, basketball, hockey, reading and research, craniosacral therapy, yoga, women’s health, photography, and Chinese medicine.  I truly enjoy every mother, father, sibling and baby that I work with and consider myself to be so fortunate that I can do what I love. I am grateful. I thank you for sharing the gift of YOU with me.
